Add captions to your video
The short answer
Turn captions on when you start a video and choose a style. Captions are burned into the picture and timed to the narration, exactly as the preview on the New video screen shows them.
Captions are off by default. These are the styles:
| Style | Looks like |
|---|---|
| Clean | Readable phrases, timed to your narration. |
| Boxed | Solid box behind the line. Readable on any footage. |
| Word pop | Each word lands as it is spoken. Built for short-form. |
| Outline | Heavy uppercase with a stroke. Loud and mobile-first. |
| One word | A single giant word at a time. Maximum attention. |
The New video screen and the caption strip on the home page show each style exactly as it renders. A style may show the words in capitals, or leave off a trailing comma, colon or full stop; your script stays as you approved it.
Captions are part of the picture, so they appear on every platform without a separate file. They work in the original shape and in a 9:16 version. In 9:16 they sit clear of the bottom fifth, where Reels, Shorts and TikTok place their controls. The caption safe-area checker shows where they sit in each shape.
Questions
Can I download an SRT file?
Not yet. Captions are burned into the rendered video.
Can I change the caption style after the video is made?
Not yet. The style is part of the finished picture. A 9:16 version made with Create another format keeps the same style.
Why can't I approve my script?
If the script has a character the captions can't draw, such as an emoji, or a word too long to fit the frame, script review names it. Change the words, save, then approve.

- Choose a narrator voiceChoose the narrator when you start a video. Every voice is AI-generated and speaks English, and the job page labels the narration that way.
- Make a 9:16 version for Reels, Shorts and TikTokFrom a finished job, choose Create another format and Portrait 9:16. It uses the same approved words, narration and caption style, and keeps the whole picture, padded with black rather than cropped.
