Why the script has a word limit
The short answer
The narration has to fit the footage, so the word limit is the clip's length multiplied by the voice's speaking rate, which the voices table lists in words a second.
A 40-second clip read at 2.5 words a second carries 100 words. The first draft aims a little under the limit so the narration has room to breathe.
To check a clip before you upload it, use the script length calculator.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Words | Footage length × the voice's rate |
| Narration | 4,500 characters |
| Editor | 20,000 characters |
If the editor says “Remove n words to fit the footage”, shorten the script before approving.
